Skating star Brian Boitano made an appearance at the Miami Book Fair International last week, but he wasn't on ice. Patrons to the ticketed-only event got a chance to taste Boitano's culinary skills, which are highlighted in a book he just published.

"My view of food has been skewed by my travels," he said. He mentioned a picture of himself "as a teenager having weiner schnitzel in Vienna," and other such experiences in different countries.

"The book is filled with fun recipes for people who have an active lifestyle." He explained that if any recipe seemed too time-consuming or complex to his friends, he altered it to make it quicker and simpler. "These are my favourite, favourite recipes," he said with obvious enthusiasm.

Those interested in seeing more of Boitano on more familiar territory, namely the ice rink, can tune in to a Holiday on Ice TV special airing on December 1.
